A Meandering Prospectus

The internet is undeniably cool. It’s an astonishing thing, filled with useful information. No matter the question you’re asking, it’s rare the knowledge you’re after does not exist. In fact, it’s a safe bet it exists in all manner of formats. This is supercharged with clever mechanisms to connect you with a never ending supply of this information. Often, seemingly before you even know that you need it.

Value prop

The point is, the answers to your questions are out there and the infrastructure to find it is robust. This makes the notion of carving out any space on the internet and declaring it my own feel quite daunting. To be honest, it feels misguided bordering on foolish to put in the effort to build a web page and write about well studied topics.

But sometimes, doing foolish things can be really fun. And sometimes, doing foolish things can lead to genuine insight. Meandering down a path, even one traversed by others, has value. You might see things others did not and you will certainly linger in areas few did before.

This brings me to a somewhat abstract value prop for this web page. We will start by meandering amongst well studied trees. Lingering to glean new perspectives while keeping tabs on where we have been. Taking care to illuminate the path as we do. All to better understand and appreciate the forest.

Meandering roadmap

This brings me to some semblance of a guiding roadmap. As I alluded to, the information you are after is out there. But often it is hidden under an abundance of noise. My goal is to produce concise, digestible posts. Conveying as much signal while creating a minimal amount of noise. Each post will be a standalone, modular. But part of a whole.

Compiling these pieces into a whole is my focus. This is the broader vision for this web page. Over time I will work to connect posts together. The connections should illuminate useful paths you can follow towards buildng large scale things. The goal is to create an output that is greater than the sum of its inputs. That will make this web page interesting beyond being a collection of content.

Connective tissue

This prospectus is a promise to readers and to myself. Putting my writing on the internet feels wholly awkward. Writing is difficult, uncomfortable, and time consuming. But, I want to lean into difficult things.

This venture will be a success if you find value in my content. But my moonshot, the goal driving me, is producing narratives to bring my content together. Building towards something comprehensive and novel. Something new.

To meander amongst known trees and study them. To then offer this meandering path as a way to better understand and appreciate the forest. That feels a little less foolish. Thanks for reading this far. Let’s meander together.
